A promising future for our communities is directly tied to a highly skilled and educated workforce. It is imperative that we give students a strong foundation to be equipped for the jobs of tomorrow.

We focus our efforts on motivating students to be prepared for higher education, promoting technology-based learning and encouraging success in science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM). Our global economy requires students to not only have a quality education, but also a strong understanding in STEAM.

Great session on Design Thinking: The Blueprint for the Future by Carrot Group for our Youth of the Year nominees!

Thank you to SCE for sponsoring, Carrot Group for the session and XPRIZE Foundation for hosting!

Participating nominees got an edge for the future. Design Thinking is a simple methodology used to solve complex problems and find desirable solutions. A design mindset is not problem-focused, but rather solution-focused creating a preferred future. Design Thinking draws upon logic, imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning, to explore possibilities of what could be – and to create desired outcomes.  Our youth showed that they are the leaders of tomorrow!

Thank you Sharky’s Woodfired Mexican Grill Marina del Rey for participating!

2018 CITY OF STEM – APRIL 28, 2018

The Los Angeles Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs is a collaboration of 27 organizations serving over 140,000 youth ages 6-18 throughout Los Angeles County. It is the mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The purpose of the Los Angeles County Alliance is to promote the efforts of its clubs and secure resources and financial support to aid in the fulfillment of this mission.

A recent Economic Impact Report commissioned by the Alliance found that for every $1 invested, Boys & Girls Clubs within Los Angeles County generate $16.42 of positive economic impact for the community. This results in an annual return on investment of a remarkable 1,642%.

The Los Angeles County Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs S.T.E.M. Initiative (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) will introduce thousands of students to cutting edge and innovative programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. S.T.E.M. utilizes specialized, multidisciplinary curricula propelled by problem solving, discovery, and exploratory learning, which encourage students to actively engage in a situation in order to find its solution. BGCA S.T.E.M. programs aim to engage students to solve real world challenges and ignite their interest in college and future careers.

By bridging the youth development community with science-rich institutions such as universities, corporations, museums, and science centers, the Alliance will increase the quality and quantity of STEM programs in its member clubs. The Alliance is engaging subject matter experts through events such as this roundtable in order to gain familiarity with a variety of STEM programs so that all of our organizations can offer innovative and inspiring STEM programs for its young people.
